FIRST SNOW

Standard

November, now, tonight
descends, as new and old
as its ascending counterpart in spring.
It brings first snow.
First snow is still a wondrous thing–
enough forgetting makes it so.
And there will be enough of later
hardships cold and hot
to curse the weather once again.
But now, tonight, I watch first snowfall
and feel silly as a wide-eyed child
although I may have seen it happen
nearly three-score times and ten.
